Furtive Father Winter 2012: The Rhyme of the Ancient Collector

So I checked my email yesterday morning and found a nice surprise, my Furtive Father Winter gift from none other than The Godmother!  How cool is that!  I’ve been on vacation all week, so I’ve finally found some time to put together a post to share my gift for all to see.  Thank you very much Godmother, this poem is awesome!  And thanks to Akabeko for hosting this event!

Without further ado, here is my gift:

Ahoy there Crimson!

You don’t know me, so let me introduce myself: I’m The Godmother. I’m in the UK, and I’ve been sent here by that lovely Red Cow to bring you some festive cheer. A cursory glance at your Armoury tells me I can’t buy you anything you don’t already have in the Pets and Mounts department (though the thought did cross my mind!) so I’m going to create something for you using the one thing I can provide in abundance: words. I know this isn’t a fabulous wallpaper or anything else with actual use, but I hope it serves to make you realise that even though you and I have never met, we’re part of a pretty large group: the collectors.

The Rhyme of the Ancient Collector

Though separated by the sea
We’re much alike, yes, you and me
Are driven by a common thread.
Collecting’s what we like to do
Jumping on each thing that’s new
Keeping just one step ahead.

Every time they add a pet
It’s one more thing we need to get
A task we’re happy to endure.
When each new mount’s ticked off a list
A draw we simply can’t resist
No need to fight this strong allure.

Some people think that we are mad
That such devotion’s just all bad
But you and I we know the truth.
Collecting’s what we want to do
We’re much alike, yes, me and you
A way to keep us in our youth.

I wish you well along your way
And hope that there will come a day
When you can say your work is done.
And then it’s time to start again
Our joy this hobby to sustain
From owning each and every one.

May all your Battle Pets be rare, and may you have what remains of a fabulous Winter Break. Here’s to lots more stuff to catch in 2013!

So true, Godmother, so true. =)

WoW TCG Sneak Peak – Timewalkers: Betrayal of the Guardian

Cryptozoic has announced the next expansion to the World of Warcraft Trading Card Game – Timewalkers: Betrayal of the Guardian.  They haven’t confirmed a release date yet, but some gaming sites are projecting the set to come out early February 2013 (UPDATE: Cryptozoic has finally listed a release date on their website, February 22nd).  This is the second set out of three in the Timewalkers Block and will feature 232 cards.  Here is the description of the new set:

Return to the days of the first and second war, when Orcs first came to Azeroth with Betrayal of the Guardian, the second set in the epic Timewalkers Block!

Medivh, the last guardian of Trisfal, first orchestrated the eventual wars that pitted humans versus orcs by bringing the bloodthirsty orcs and Gul’dan to Azeroth through the Dark Portal. Relive the first moments of the original Warcraft games with cards that harken back to this time. Will you be part of the stalwart humans, the bloodthirsty orcs, or will you be tempted to support the Monsters that have been left to lurk in Karazhan after Medivh’s corruption?

Form strategies with the Timewalkers, allies that become more powerful if you control multiple copies of a Horde or Alliance race. In fact, there’s more that rewards you for having more of the same race out than ever before! Get rewarded with double the fun out of your abilities through Echo, or receive a big discount on some big effects with Rift.

Will you aid the Alliance or Horde in these great wars? Or will you become a Monster, and fight against both? The choice is yours!

I’m excited to see what cards they’ll bring out that are Karazhan related.  And the new abilities Echo and Rift sound pretty cool too.

And what’s a WoW TCG expansion without the awesome loot cards?  Here are the loot cards proposed for this set (I will updated this page with images once they become available):

Common Loot Card – Gusting Grimoire

  • This pet seems to be similar to the Lofty Libram pet, but with a different color scheme.  Add the Enchanted Broom and you could have your own Team Fantasia!

Uncommon Loot Card – Dark Portal Hearthstone

  • This item is similar to the Ethereal Portal item released in the Icecrown Expansion.  It won’t give you an extra hearth, but instead you’ll get a cool animation when you use it.

Rare Loot Card – Ghastly Charger’s Skull

  • The tooltip says that this is a flying mount, so it’s animations are probably similar to the Headless Horseman mount, just with a different skin.

Looks like Cryptozoic is going to start 2013 with another great TCG expansion, can’t wait to get my hands on this set!

Shared Topic: What raid-drop pets would you like to see?

Wow, it’s been a long time since I’ve done one of these, lol.  Last week’s Shared Topic from Blog Azeroth comes from Effraeti who asks:

If a future patch adds more raid-dropped pets like those introduced in 5.1, what pets would you like to see?  What raid and boss would they be available from?

I’m a big fan of these new pet drops on old raid bosses, so I hope Blizz continues with this idea.  Here are my pet ideas for future boss drops (all images from Wowhead).

Thaddius – Naxxramas

I’ve always thought Thaddius was a cool-looking boss, I think he would have been a better pet than the Giant Bone Spider from Maexxna.

Icehowl – Trial of the Crusader

Blizzard seriously needs to give us an Abominable Greench pet for Winter Veil already.  Combine that with a Kun-Lai Runt and a mini Icehowl and we could have an all-Yeti team, RAWR!

Orgrim’s Hammer and Skybreaker – Icecrown Citadel

The Darkmoon Zeppelin needs some company in the air.  How about give us some mini Lootships to battle it?

Flame Leviathan – Ulduar

Speaking of needing some company, I’d like to see a real tank battle between the Darkmoon Tonk and the king of tanks, Flame Leviathan.

Razorscale – Ulduar

The all-proto drake team:  the red Proto-Drake Whelp, the Emerald Proto-Whelp and the mini Razorscale!

 Occu’thar – Baradin Hold

Scarier than the Core Hound Pup, but would be just as deadly in pet battles.

Omnotron Defense System – Blackwing Descent

Golem pets, yes!

 Rhyolith – Firelands

Enemy pets beware: if you manage to break his shell, you might get burned with mini Rhyo’s fiery underneath!

 Baleroc – Firelands

I think Mini Tyrael needs a nemesis.  Mini Baleroc is the perfect candidate.

Conclave of Wind – Throne of the Four Winds

These Djinns just look cool.  Who wouldn’t want miniatures of these guys?

Morchok – Dragon Soul

Mini Morchok says give us Mor pets, Blizz!
