OpenRaid – ICC 25 man Meta Complete!

Introducing the newest float to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

Sorry for the week-long blog silence, just came back from a wonderful vacation, celebrating the wifey’s b-day with her family.  =)  Boy, do I have a lot of blog reading to catch up on, so I’m apologizing in advance if I spam yours with comments, lol.

Sunday night, JD was very generous to set up an ICC 25 man raid to help me finish the rest of the achievements I needed for the meta.  I had already signed up Arv for an OpenRaid run for Monday night before I saw JD’s LBR, so I brought Dizzee my warrior instead.  We had server troubles with some of our raiders and they kept getting DC’d throughout the night, even JD himself.  We weren’t able to get any of the achievements I needed (coming real close to getting Full House), but nevertheless I had a good time hanging out with fellow bloggers, including Lyss, Van, Navi, Cymre, Draynee, Akabeko and JD.  We didn’t get to kill the Lich King, but we’ll probably extend the raid and finish him off this weekend.

Monday night, I joined an ICC 25 man raid hosted by Darriepants from Kil’jaeden.

Another great raid leader, she explained the fights really well and we finished the raid 20 minutes ahead of schedule with a lot of peeps completing their metas, including me =)

Here’s the last four I needed:

To finish off the meta and receive my mount:

A nice shot of both ICC mounts, with Lyssi on the 10 man version

This mount looks awesome with my Snow Knight set =)

Another awesome OpenRaid complete and another Meta achievement down!

Oh, I went to check my cheese points after the raid and I’m at:

Stupid frackin’ five points, lol =P

My First OpenRaid Experience – Heroic ICC 25 Man

I’ve been reading a lot around the internez about this website called OpenRaid, which is a website where you can organize or join cross-realm raids or PvP groups.  It’s pretty simple to join; all you have to do is create an account and supply your character(s) information and either your RealId or Battletag.  You then receive an email confirming your raid/group spot and off you go.  Easy enough, right?  I had some free time Sunday afternoon, so I signed up for a Heroic ICC 25 man run.  Here’s a description of the raid:

The raid was created/led by Travex from US-Khadgar.  The rules were laid out and self-explanatory and we started right at 2 pm.  We had a full 25 man raid and everyone was decently geared, so this was looking to be a quick run.

We killed Marrowgar so fast, none of the Bone Spikes came up, but we still got Boned, lol.

We had a hiccup on Lady Deathwhipser, there were some people in the raid that needed the Full House achievement, including me, but Travex apparently didn’t see that or misinterpreted the readycheck and we killed Lady so fast, so we missed out on that achievement.  Next was Lootship 1.0.  I already had the I’m on a Boat achievement, but it is currently bugged and you get it anyways even if people jump over more than once.

Deathbringer Saurfang also went down quick and he only got one wave of Blood Beasts out, and that was it for the first part of ICC.

Looting the gold off Saurfang also got me Got My Mind On My Money, the 100,000 gold version.  I know Arv had 70,000 of that on his own and with the new achievement sharing, my alts combined to make up the other 30,000.

Next was the Plagueworks, with Rotface, Festergut and Putricide, whom we all killed fairly quickly.  I rolled against another pally for a chance to do the Unholy Fusion part of the Shadowmourne quest and won, but I passed it over to him because he said that he tried to do it last week in this same raid group and wasn’t able to complete it.  Unfortunately, the encounter seemed bugged again for that part of the questline, because he was not able to gather up any of the pools. =(

Plagueworks done!

The Crimson Halls was next.  We lost The Orb Whisperer achievement at the last second when someone took a 7,500 hp shot to the face.  D’oh!  And I also missed out on the Once Bitten, Twice Shy achievement when a stupid feral druid bit me after I had said that I didn’t need to be bitten for the second part of the achievement.  /facepalm  Oh well, Crimson Halls complete!

The Frostwing Halls also went by quick, we had plenty of heals and people to cover the portals for Portal Jockey:

And Sindragosa was cake too, along with her meta, and Frostwing Halls was complete!

Onward to the Lich King!

We actually took about four attempts on this, as people were getting blown off the platform from the shadowtraps that were laid out in phase one.  But once we got everything right, the King finally died to our swords.

With that Heroic Lich King 25 man kill came one of the coolest, no pun intended, titles in the game, another one that I’ve been wanting to get for a while.  It even sounds paladinish too, lol.

The raid lasted about 2 hours; it would have been an hour and a half long, but we spent a little bit of time getting the Blood Fusion for a dps on the Blood Queen and obviously the wipes on Heroic LK.

After the raid is completed, you are sent a survey in your email that allows you to rate your OpenRaid experience and you can also rate your raid leader and raid mates as well.  The rating is then calculated and you’re given a sort of an ongoing OpenRaid reputation (Unfriendly, Friendly, Honored, Revered and Exalted) so that you can see who are the good players who play well with others from the baddies.  So you better be on your best behavior if you want to get invited to another, lol.

So after all that, this is what I needed left to get my mount:

I’m hoping to find another group before MoP comes out to finish this (and my other metas I’m close to finishing).  My first experience with OpenRaid was great and hope that others will also try it out.  Maybe I’ll see one of you guys out there, so go sign up!

Cleaning up LK’s and KT’s house and Half-Mogs

Hmmm….what should I wear?

We’ll get to what the above screenshot means a little bit later.  Sorry, no PvP Weekend update post this time around.  Wait…no PvP?  Yep, nada.  Was it because of Isle of Conquest weekend?  Nah, I decided to take a break from smashing Alliance heads and just settled for some old raid fun time.  Maybe you’ll get a PvP update next week, lol.

Last week, SR decided to head into 25-man Icecrown Citadel and work on Zug’s Shadowmourne quest.  We had Adoe, Cayle, Chewy, Lyssi, Bocat, Van, Zug, Slice on his chain-healing noob shammy and me.  Zug was on the part we he had to take Sindy’s bad breaths to the face four times.  So we made quick work of the Lower Spire, Lootship 1.0, Deathbringer Saurfang and healed Valithria Dreamwalker to full.  It took us a few tries to get Sindy down, but Zug got his Shadow’s Edge all covered with Sindy’s halitosis and we got a nice achievement for it.

So Zug turned his completed quest into Darion Mograine, and Darion told Zug that now he had to bring him 50 Shadowfrost Shards, which only drop off 25 man ICC bosses.   50!!!  According to wowhead, all normal 25-man bosses have a 25%-50% chance to drop a shard, while heroic 25-man bosses have a 50%-75% chance to drop a shard.  /facepalm ><  So we headed over to the Plagueworks and decided to try the Abomination twins on heroic.  We used SR’s long-standing tactic, the Brute-Force, and one-shotted both Rotface and Festergut.  I think Zug might have gotten a shard or two out of the twins.  Adoe then said hell no to Heroic Putricide, which everyone pretty much agreed, lol.  I took up the Abom driving duties since I was also working on my own Shadowmourne on the Unholy Infusion quest, just a couple behind Zug.  The pools ended up getting out of control and I died before I could complete my quest, but it was fun watching Cayle soloing Putricide for the last 10%.  We did get two achievements out of it and a shard, so that made up for my missed quest.

Chewy gets it in the face by Rotface, lol

We finished the night clearing the Blood Princes and Blood-Queen Lana’thel on normal, grabbing another achievement.

I think Zug ended up with 4 shards for the night…..we gots a long ways to go, lol.  And we might need a couple more peeps to down Lich King on 25-man too. =)

I picked up the last Conqueror’s Mark of Sanctification in that run to complete my Tier 10.5 Lightsworn set and in my excitement, rushed over to Tirion to show him the good stuff.  I don’t think he was impressed though; he was being all “Mr. Srs Bznz” and stuff. =P

Look at me, Tirion! =P

Saturday morning, Navimie, being the awesome person she is, rounded up a couple of the Frostees (Tacky, Aza and Faithless) to help me get Shocking in 25-man Naxx.  I also brought Chewy along for the ride since he was up just as early as I was.  I had just missed joining the Frostees last week when they had just finished Shocking and Navi was so kind enough to help me get it this week.  Getting Shocking also gave me Glory of the Raider, so a very nice one-for-two special.  Thanks guys for helping me finish this up! FAFA!

I just kicked Thaddius in the nuts, lol

Now you’re probably wondering what the hell this Half-Mogs stuff is that I mentioned in the post title.  Well, from these two ICC and Naxx runs, along with some gear stashed in my bank, I tried another attempt at mogging my gear into something visual-worthy.  Slice and Zari probably think I’m sick, but I wanted to redeem myself from my prior failures, which you can see for yourself below:

So, yeah….um….yeah.  Pretty bad huh?  I think JD and crew would definitely throw me out of the Mogolympics if I tried entering this atrocity into their competition, lol.  Hey JD, maybe for the next Mogolympics, you could have a Juggling event…I could definitely whip up a mad clown suit, haha.

Anywho, I managed to gather up a couple of pieces together and create a new look for my Prot set.  When Adoe first saw this on me, he said that I looked pretty cool and I was ready “to tank the shit out of something”, lol.  Navi kinda dubbed my look as the “Unholy Paladin”, so I’ll go with that.

Unholy Paladin

Unholy Paladin with Crimson Deathcharger mount

Unholy Paladin set

I couldn’t half-mog my Prot set without having done my Ret set too, so I put together some pieces which are basically recolors of the Unholy Paladin set.  Couldn’t think of a name for this set, so I came up with the first /facepalming thought that crossed my mind.

Snow Knight

Snow Knight with Phosphorescent Stone Drake mount

Snow Knight and the 7 non-matching pieces set (not including rings, trinks and relic and yes I know you can’t really see bracers or neck =P)

So yeah, I’m still using my Cataclysmic Gladiator PvP gear for the rest of the pieces and I know I have more work to do on it, but I think it looks ok for now.  I don’t know how crazy I’m gonna go with the whole transmogging craze most players are into now, but I did have fun putting these half-assed sets together. =)  I think the best mog outfit, though, is in the image below, I call it the Magic Arv set, lmao.
