Friday Fun Night – Doing the Dragon Soul

Fighting Hagara

Last week’s Friday Fun Night was held in Dragon Soul, which most of the raid hadn’t seen since the end of Cataclysm.  Our purpose there was to finish up the Glory of the Dragon Soul Raider achievement to get our Twilight Harbringer drakes, maybe for transmog gear, but definitely for fun.  I invited Chewy’s rogue, Stunnah, to come along to finish up his Fangs of the Father daggers that we never got to complete back in Cata.  Along with Stunnah, we had Slice, Lyss, Zari, Bocat, Van, Vaunt (Tyledres‘ fresh level 90 warlock that she leveled up in our guild) and our fellow Frostee friends, Navi and Lushnek.  Almost a blogger’s paradise, looks like Stunnah and Lushnek need a blog, ya?

We started the night with a quick clear of Heroic Throne of the Four Winds to complete the last achievement for Navi’s and Lush’s Glory of the Cataclysm Raider meta, then it was a quick port to the Caverns of Time to begin our Dragon Soul run.  Navi and Lush already completed the Dragon Soul meta with their guild back in Cataclysm, but they still came along and offered to help us with DS.

Morchok was first and we left him on normal so that the Don’t Stand So Close to Me achievement would be easier to get for those that needed it, but we burned him down so fast that we didn’t even get a black blood phase.  Maybe we could have done him on Heroic, but I wasn’t sure if bringing out Kohcrom would complicate things, since we were only going with one tank for the night.

We then went to Warlord Zon’ozz and did him on normal to get a clean Ping Pong Champion.  We only needed 10 bounces, but because of a few dps that didn’t move behind Zon’ozz, I think we ended up bouncing the Void of Unmaking at least 12 or 13 times, lol.

Next was Yor’sahj the Unsleeping, who we did flip to Heroic to give those who needed Taste the Rainbow! a better chance at more color combinations having four oozes up.  I already had the achievement, just needed the Heroic kill.

Heroic: Yor'sahj the Unsleeping

As we made our way to Hagara the Stormbinder, Navi whispered me about the Holding Hands achievement, which we didn’t have, and said that it was her favorite one to do.  She even said that we didn’t have to kill the boss to get it, so I figured we’d go for it and then wipe afterwards to kill her on Heroic.  Navi and Lush positioned us for the achievement and we made a cool looking lightning chain in the shape of a U, which I forgot to take a screenshot of. ><

Heroic: Hagara the Stormbinder

Ultraxion, the bane of the extra button pushing (or Ultra-Zion, as someone in the guild called him in the past, like he was from the Matrix movie lol), was next.  I might be mistaken, but I think we tried to do this on Heroic back when DS was current as this was supposed to be the second easiest Heroic fight after Heroic Morchok.  We came close before, but just couldn’t get him down.  This time though, it was much easier…even though some people still died to Hour of Twilight or Fading Light, lol.  We only had 2 or 3 Hour of Twilights to worry about, so Minutes to Midnight was also easy to get.

Heroic: Ultraxion and Minutes to Midnight

The corrupt Tauren, Warmaster Blackhorn, was next up.  We tried to get Deck Defender for some, but we let a Twilight Barrage explode on the ship, so we just downed him on Heroic instead.  It was cool to see Blackthorn’s mount, Goriona, land on the ship too, a neat addition to the fight on Heroic.

Heroic: Warmaster Blackhorn

We were gonna do Spine and Madness of Deathwing on Heroic, but Lushnek mentioned that in order to do it, we would have to have done all the bosses on Heroic, which we did not do for Morchok and Zon’ozz.  So instead, we did them both on normal and started Madness on Alexstrasza’s platform to knockout the second part of Chromatic Champion.

All in all, it was another fun night raiding old content.  We’ll definitely be back here for at least another two weeks, maybe more (Stunnah needs 45 more Elemental Gem Clusters and a Deathwing Kill to finish up the legendaries).  I think most of us need Zon’ozz on Heroic and the final two platforms, Nozdormu and Kalecgos, for Chromatic Champion left to get our mounts.  And even though Spine and Madness of Deathwing on Heroic are not needed for the meta, I’m pretty sure everyone wants that sweet title, Savior of Azeroth, off Madness.  Thanks again to Navi and Lush for coming along and helping us with our kills and achievements and I’ll see everyone this Friday for more Dragon Soul raiding. =)

Friday Fun Night – Shadow Wolves Raids T11 and T12

Lyss and I had a discussion a couple of weeks ago about organizing a fun guild night where we would do things like raid old content or farming dino bones on the Isle of Giants, all while chatting it up and laughing on vent.  We wanted to do this to bring in more guild interaction on our off raid nights and to also break up the monotony of wiping on progression bosses, week in and week out *cough*Horridon*cough*.  The last time SR did a fun night like this was back in January, where we raided T11 and in one night, killed Heroic Cho’gall, Heroic Al’Akir, Heroic Nefarian and even Sinestra.

Our first fun raid night was scheduled two Fridays ago, with the intentions of finishing up the T11 achievees for the Glory of the Cataclysm Raider.  We had 9 SR peeps sign up for the event (me, Van, Bocat, Slice, Lyss, Shirl, Zari, Adoe and Shadeey), and so I asked Navi earlier in the day if she wanted to come.  She said she was still missing a lot of the T11 achievees, so it was a definite yes for her.  Adoe and Shadeey weren’t able to make it to the raid that night, so Navi brought in Lushnek and Exray from her guild to fill out the remaining spots.

We started the night with Bastion of Twilight and left it on Heroic the whole way through.  Halfus ran over me like a truck and I died once, but came back quick to finish the fight.  I honestly think we ended the fight not releasing any of the drakes…maybe that could have helped out a little, lol.

Two of the few achievements I had left for the meta came on the next fight, the twin dragons Valiona and Theralion.  We barely got the Double Dragon achievement as we killed the last Twilight Fiend just in time before the Twilight Realm team died.

Heroic: Valiona and Theralion

Double Dragon

The Ascendant Council was next;  I remember reading about how this was the hardest Heroic encounter back in Cataclysm.  They didn’t stand a chance to our army of 90s.

Heroic: Ascendant Council

We tried to get The Abyss Will Gaze Back Into You on the Cho’gall fight, but with the additional adds and all the bad going out to deal with, we couldn’t keep the corruption levels low enough.  So we avoided that achievement and just killed him for those who needed the Heroic kill.

A few people hadn’t seen the Sinestra fight before, so after explaining a little bit of the fight and handing out assignments, we managed to one-shot her, getting some people their Dragonslayer titles.

Next up was Blackwing Descent.  Again, we did the whole raid on Heroic and it went pretty smoothly, except for a couple of hiccups on Heroic Nefarian.  We did have another close achievee call by just getting Nef to 50% before he landed in Phase 3 to get Keeping it in the Family.

Keeping it in the Family

Oh, and I finally got the best temporary title in the game during the Heroic Maloriak encounter.  I managed to stay alive this time around, helping those that needed the Aberrant Behavior achievement and not getting blown up by the adds and bad.  Looking at this title makes me feel like I just killed some of Gru’s unfortunate friends from Despicable Me, lol.

Slayer of Stupid, Incompetent and Disappointing Minions

We ended the night working on the Stay Chill achievement in Throne of the Four Winds, but it was getting late and we had trouble getting our stacks up, so we left it for the next fun raid night.

Shadow Wolves Heroic Al'Akir Kill

So last Friday, we headed back to T11 land.  Our raid comp was a little different from the prior week, with Chewy coming in on his Drak shammy, Smutt, in place of Shirl.  Navi said that Exray wouldn’t be able to make it, and so we brought in another fellow Frostee, Luxygaga.  We started in BoT again, this time doing everything on Normal, even Cho’gall, to make the run quicker and the achievement easier to get.

The Abyss Will Gaze Back Into You

We then went to BWD to get the last part of Achieve-a-tron for Van and killed Atramedes for some transmog gear for Navi.

Then it was off to Tot4W again to finish up the meta.  We tried different strats to get everyone the correct amount of Wind Chill stacks and after a few attempts, the achievement was finally ours.

Stay Chill

And with that, my meta was complete.

Glory of the Cataclysm Raider

The reward for completing this meta is another directional Wind drake mount, the Reins of the Drake of the East Wind, which is a really nice-looking red drake.

Reins of the Drake of the East Wind

We finished Tot4W by killing Al’Akir on Heroic for those who needed the “of the Four Winds” title.

Since we finished T11 so quick, Lyss suggested that we go to T12 for a quick Firelands run to get the “Firelord” title.  I had gotten my title in an OpenRaid run last year and I remembered how crazy and hectic that fight was, especially to see a Leggy Rags running around, so I was eager to hear what the rest of the group thought about it when we got to him.  Luxy mentioned before we got to Firelands that she solo’d Alysrazor earlier in the week farming for the mount and that we wouldn’t be able to see the Firebird, but we decided to go through with it anyways.  One by one, each Heroic boss fell; Shannox, Beth’tilac, Rhyolith, Baleroc and Staghelm.

I did want to test out something with the Baleroc fight.  With such high health pools in MoP, I wanted to see how high I could stack my health on the gatekeeper.  I was already at 700K HP before the fight started and hoped to hit 2 million HP by the end, but I didn’t quite reach it.  I got pretty damn close to it, though, Like a (Mini-Raid) Boss!

Arvash, the Mini Raid Boss

In order to see Heroic Rags, you have to kill every other boss on Heroic, so when we got to his Lair, of course Rags was nowhere to be found.  So we flipped the raid to Normal and just burned him down quick, no pun intended.  We even had Seeds, Sons of Flame and Scions all at the same time as we transitioned into phase 3. =P

Shadow Wolves Rags Kill

It was nice to blast those achievements out of the way and I had a good time hanging out with everyone.  We’re planning to do Dragon Soul achievements this Friday and maybe we can also get some Firelord titles too.  Thanks again to the Frostees for joining us for the runs and grats to everyone on their achievements!

Frostin’ an Old God with the Frostees and Killin’ a Dragon with a Dragon(ray)

Last Saturday morning, I joined a 25-man Ulduar raid with Navi, Tacky and the Frostees and Dragonray and a couple of her crew.  Most of them were there for transmog pieces, but said they would go for some achievements too.  I was hoping that the two-handed sword, Voldrethar, Dark Blade of Oblivion, would drop from General Vezax so I could complete my Ulduar sword collection along with Aesir’s Edge, Abaddon and Stormrune Edge.

We started with Flame Leviathan, where I only need to defeat him in a Salvage Chopper to finish off Three Car Garage.

Ignis was next and after we made quick work of him, we skipped Razorscale and went straight to XT.  Lol, I don’t think we meant to push him to hardmode, but we downed him anyways to get Heartbreaker.

Next was the Assembly of Iron, where a couple of poeple needed to kill Runemaster Molgeim to finish all the achievements in this fight and we got I Choose You, Runemaster Molgeim for it.

Made quick work of Algalon, then moved onto Kologarn.  We tried to get Rubble and Roll last week while trying to do If Looks Could Kill at the same time, but it didn’t work out, so we just went with one of them instead and got Navi an achievement.

I died a couple of times tanking Auriya’s Sanctum Sentries, but the rest of the group cleaned her up quick to get Crazy Cat Lady.

Got an easy one on Hodir, Staying Buffed All Winter.

Missed Don’t Stand in the Lightning again on Thorim, but I made up for it by getting 3 achievements on Freya by killing her with all three Elders up for Knock, Knock, Knock on Wood.

Probably the hardest achievement to get when it was current, but we made Firefighter look easy in this run.

We did Vezax’s I Love the Smell of Saronite in the Morning, sadly, he did not drop my sword. =(

We tried to do Alone in the Darkness when we got to Yogg,  but the damage got too crazy and peeps were losing all their sanity, so we decided to quickly kill him and brought all the Keepers in for the fight.  I did manage to snag He’s Not Getting Any Older.

Afterwards, everyone left and Navi, me and two other stayed to help Tacky get Iron Dwarf, Medium Rare to complete his Glory of the Ulduar Raider.  Grats Tacky on the new mount!

So after that was all said and done, I realized that I was closer to getting my own Glory of the Ulduar Raider than I thought I was.  I’m gonna have to go back and finish this bad boy up!

Sunday morning, I got invited to a group with Dragonray, some of her guildies and Navi.  Dragonray wanted to kill Maly on 10 man for her husband so he could get the Champion of the Frozen Wastes title.  I got another two achievements from this:

Which brought me one achievement away from finishing Glory of the Raider.

Hopefully, I can finish these two metas off before MoP arrives.  Thanks to Navi and Dragonray for bringing me along for the cheeves!

Cleaning up LK’s and KT’s house and Half-Mogs

Hmmm….what should I wear?

We’ll get to what the above screenshot means a little bit later.  Sorry, no PvP Weekend update post this time around.  Wait…no PvP?  Yep, nada.  Was it because of Isle of Conquest weekend?  Nah, I decided to take a break from smashing Alliance heads and just settled for some old raid fun time.  Maybe you’ll get a PvP update next week, lol.

Last week, SR decided to head into 25-man Icecrown Citadel and work on Zug’s Shadowmourne quest.  We had Adoe, Cayle, Chewy, Lyssi, Bocat, Van, Zug, Slice on his chain-healing noob shammy and me.  Zug was on the part we he had to take Sindy’s bad breaths to the face four times.  So we made quick work of the Lower Spire, Lootship 1.0, Deathbringer Saurfang and healed Valithria Dreamwalker to full.  It took us a few tries to get Sindy down, but Zug got his Shadow’s Edge all covered with Sindy’s halitosis and we got a nice achievement for it.

So Zug turned his completed quest into Darion Mograine, and Darion told Zug that now he had to bring him 50 Shadowfrost Shards, which only drop off 25 man ICC bosses.   50!!!  According to wowhead, all normal 25-man bosses have a 25%-50% chance to drop a shard, while heroic 25-man bosses have a 50%-75% chance to drop a shard.  /facepalm ><  So we headed over to the Plagueworks and decided to try the Abomination twins on heroic.  We used SR’s long-standing tactic, the Brute-Force, and one-shotted both Rotface and Festergut.  I think Zug might have gotten a shard or two out of the twins.  Adoe then said hell no to Heroic Putricide, which everyone pretty much agreed, lol.  I took up the Abom driving duties since I was also working on my own Shadowmourne on the Unholy Infusion quest, just a couple behind Zug.  The pools ended up getting out of control and I died before I could complete my quest, but it was fun watching Cayle soloing Putricide for the last 10%.  We did get two achievements out of it and a shard, so that made up for my missed quest.

Chewy gets it in the face by Rotface, lol

We finished the night clearing the Blood Princes and Blood-Queen Lana’thel on normal, grabbing another achievement.

I think Zug ended up with 4 shards for the night…..we gots a long ways to go, lol.  And we might need a couple more peeps to down Lich King on 25-man too. =)

I picked up the last Conqueror’s Mark of Sanctification in that run to complete my Tier 10.5 Lightsworn set and in my excitement, rushed over to Tirion to show him the good stuff.  I don’t think he was impressed though; he was being all “Mr. Srs Bznz” and stuff. =P

Look at me, Tirion! =P

Saturday morning, Navimie, being the awesome person she is, rounded up a couple of the Frostees (Tacky, Aza and Faithless) to help me get Shocking in 25-man Naxx.  I also brought Chewy along for the ride since he was up just as early as I was.  I had just missed joining the Frostees last week when they had just finished Shocking and Navi was so kind enough to help me get it this week.  Getting Shocking also gave me Glory of the Raider, so a very nice one-for-two special.  Thanks guys for helping me finish this up! FAFA!

I just kicked Thaddius in the nuts, lol

Now you’re probably wondering what the hell this Half-Mogs stuff is that I mentioned in the post title.  Well, from these two ICC and Naxx runs, along with some gear stashed in my bank, I tried another attempt at mogging my gear into something visual-worthy.  Slice and Zari probably think I’m sick, but I wanted to redeem myself from my prior failures, which you can see for yourself below:

So, yeah….um….yeah.  Pretty bad huh?  I think JD and crew would definitely throw me out of the Mogolympics if I tried entering this atrocity into their competition, lol.  Hey JD, maybe for the next Mogolympics, you could have a Juggling event…I could definitely whip up a mad clown suit, haha.

Anywho, I managed to gather up a couple of pieces together and create a new look for my Prot set.  When Adoe first saw this on me, he said that I looked pretty cool and I was ready “to tank the shit out of something”, lol.  Navi kinda dubbed my look as the “Unholy Paladin”, so I’ll go with that.

Unholy Paladin

Unholy Paladin with Crimson Deathcharger mount

Unholy Paladin set

I couldn’t half-mog my Prot set without having done my Ret set too, so I put together some pieces which are basically recolors of the Unholy Paladin set.  Couldn’t think of a name for this set, so I came up with the first /facepalming thought that crossed my mind.

Snow Knight

Snow Knight with Phosphorescent Stone Drake mount

Snow Knight and the 7 non-matching pieces set (not including rings, trinks and relic and yes I know you can’t really see bracers or neck =P)

So yeah, I’m still using my Cataclysmic Gladiator PvP gear for the rest of the pieces and I know I have more work to do on it, but I think it looks ok for now.  I don’t know how crazy I’m gonna go with the whole transmogging craze most players are into now, but I did have fun putting these half-assed sets together. =)  I think the best mog outfit, though, is in the image below, I call it the Magic Arv set, lmao.

Shadow Rising has been /reported for being Navispammed!

I logged in Sunday morning to run a couple of BGs with Navimie, Sevros and Fallnapart like I’ve been doing lately.  We ended up winning two out of three before Sev and Falln had to go.  Navi then wanted to help me with some Zul Gurub achievees, so she brought Azalpha and Mctacky along.  It’s funny how even though you can be in full 397 gear, you can still die to stupid shit, even in the Trollorics.  It had been a while since I was last in one, so promptly died like a noob to bad stuff on the ground and toxic links, lol.  We headed towards the High Priestess Kilnara for the first achievee, which I forgot to take a pic of, cause it looked pretty funny all us holding the rats.

We then went over to Jin’do to get another quick achievee and quickly died because we were just swarmed with adds, lol.  Thanks Navi, Aza and Tacky for helping me out with these!

Afterwards, Navi and I chatted for bit and she was talking about how she’s been wanting to meet more of the SR crew.  A couple of minutes later, Slice logs in and I whispered to him to go brush his hair and put a nice dress on and grab his beau, Lyssi, cause Navi wanted to meet them.  Navi went to log onto one of her many level one toons spread across the WoWverse so that she could paparazzi them.  I invited Adoe to the group and we threw a toy party right in the middle of Cowtown.  Then Navi said that she wished she was on her main for this as well, so we took the party over to ToGC for more photo ops, since Navi hasn’t had any spam shots from there.  I thought we were just gonna be there for a couple of pics when Adoe told me to switch it to 10 man heroic before zoning in.  He figured since we were here already, we might as well finish up the ToGC run that I botched up the settings on two weeks ago when Anub didn’t spawn for us.  And that’s when the SR floodgates opened.  Lyssi got Van, Tel and Zari (on his mage) to come and Adoe grabbed Shadey too.  Lyssi also put a quick call to Cayle and he said he and Zug would be on in 10 minutes.  So we quickly finished up the raid, finally getting Anub to spawn (yay!) and grabbing our achievees we missed last time.

So Cayle finally joined the raid after we abruptly interrupted him from his beauty sleep and we all got set up for our Navispam photo-op.  The only peeps we were missing were Zug and Moog, but otherwise pretty much all of SR was there.

I think we should bring Navi along more when we raid.  She pretty much got all of SR together today to raid, lol.  And she even got Cayle to join in, maybe next time he’ll actually do some work instead of looking pretty for the camera.  Thanks Navi for coming to visit us, we hoped you enjoyed your stay! =)
